The Dummies Guide to 8 Ball, 9 Ball & Straight Pool Racking

The Dummies Guide to 9-Ball Racking

Is this your first time playing pool or were you never really taught how to rack?

Follow these simple steps below to make you an expert in minutes...

1. Start with a Delta-13 rack. Make sure the rack is face up on the table with the center alignment marks up. www.delta-13.com/delta-13-elite.html

2. Begin placing the balls inside the rack, starting with the #1 solid yellow upfront and alternating solid and stripe left to right. The corner balls will be one stripe and one solid.

3. The eight ball will always be placed in the center of the rack.

4. Begin on the end of the table with the racking dot. If there is not one, then pick a side you would like to rack from.

5. Begin moving the rack and balls back and forth with your hands tightening the balls and pressing them forward.

6. Move any spinning balls to the backside of the rack and then switch them out. Keep doing this until there is minimal ball movement. The Delta-13 rack identifies undersized balls for a tighter, more consistent rack.

7. Align the balls and rack with center mark, press balls forward and remove rack by the corner holes or the ergonomic grip. The center mark should be in the middle of the #1 yellow ball.

8. The white ball will be at the other end of the table, lined up with the second diamond on the side of the table.

9. Now you are ready to break!

The Dummies Guide to 9-Ball Racking

 1. Start with a Delta-13 rack. Make sure the rack is face up on the table with the center alignment marks up.

2. Begin placing the solid balls inside the rack (including the 8 ball) with the #1 yellow solid in the front. Sequence should be 1,2,3,2,1. Place only the solid yellow stripe #9 in the center and the #8 black ball at the bottom. You will not completely fill the rack with balls in as you did for the 8-ball racking.

3. Follow numbers #5 - #9 above to finish learning how to rack.
